The Tasmanian Association of Pharmacy Students (TAPS) is a student-run organisation that exists to represent the interests of pharmacy students studying at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in Hobart. We do this by working in partnership with the University of Tasmania's Department of Pharmacy, industry groups, government bodies and other pharmacy student groups around Australia. Membership is available to all current pharmacy students studying a Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy and membership runs annually from the start of the academic year.
TAPS is one of the oldest pharmacy student organisations in Australia with our roots stretching back over 50 years. During that time we have been one of an increasing number of pharmacy student organisations around Australia. There are currently eighteen such organisations including TAPS that together form the National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA). Representative students from each of the eighteen branches of NAPSA form the national council responsible for running the national organisation. Representing over 3500 students nation-wide NAPSA is a trusted source of student opinion and input for many pharmacy industry groups and government bodies.
TAPS is also affiliated with the Tasmanian University Union (TUU) which acts to preserve the interests of all UTAS students.
TAPS offers many educational and social opportunities to our members, including the following:
